Project overview
The Old Elm Wind Farm is a proposed wind energy project, consisting of up to 14 turbines, a substation and associated works, to be developed approximately 10 km south-west of the Town of Magrath, Alberta. The project is being developed by Old Elm Wind Farm Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Boralex Inc.
Permitting
On June 3, 2018, the Applicant submitted an application to the Alberta Utilities Commission for the Power Plant and associated Nine Mile Coulee 143S substation. The application fulfilled AUC requirements, including, among other things, a comprehensive public consultation program, noise study, and referral letter from Alberta Environment and Parks. Subsequently, the Project received Alberta Utilities Commission approval on February 11, 2019, for both the Power Plant (Approval # 23711-D02-2019) and Substation (Permit and Licence # 12711-D03-2019).

Interconnection
A collector line will run along Range Road 225 connecting the Project to a collector station (Nine Mile Coulee 143S substation; to be built) Electricity will be supplied to Alberta’s electrical system via the 891L transmission line. Currently the Project is in Gate 2 of the AESO interconnection process.
Project equipment and components
General components involved in the Project include turbine pads, meteorological towers, electrical collector lines, access roads, cranes (during construction), electrical transformers and a collector substation. The wind farm will consist of up to 14 turbines.
