Who we are

2025

We have been developing, building, and operating renewable energy production sites for over 35 years in Canada, the US, France, and the United Kingdom. Here are the key milestones in our history:

April 1st, 2025: Limekiln Wind Farm reaches operation. It is Boralex's first historic milestone in the United Kingdom.

In June :

  • On the 17th, Boralex revealed its ambition for 2030. Discover more.
  • On the 25th, Boralex is recognized as best corporate citizen in Canada by Corporate Knights. Discover more.

In May, Boralex reached a key milestone by securing the Oxford energy storage project in Ontario, reinforcing its position as a leader in energy storage within the province. The year was also marked by the signing of two bilateral power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Nestlé and Saint-Gobain in France, strengthening the company’s strategic partnerships. In the United Kingdom, Boralex continued its growth with the signing of a Corporate PPA with Statkraft and securing its first project financing, two major steps for the Limekiln wind farm.

The year 2023 was marked by the addition of over 700 MW to Boralex’s project portfolio, strengthening its position in the renewable energy sector. In Quebec, the company secured CAD 600 million in financing for the Apuiat wind farm, a key project developed in a 50-50 partnership with the Innu communities. In Scotland, Boralex achieved a major milestone by obtaining a Contract for Difference (CfD) for the Limekiln wind farm, a critical step in its development in the United Kingdom. In October, Boralex inaugurated the Clé des Champs solar farm in France, its first asset in the country open to community investment, marking a turning point in its collaboration with local communities.

In February, an agreement is reached with Energy Infrastructure Partners (EIP) to support the implementation of Boralex’s strategic plan in France. EIP takes a 30% stakes in Boralex’s activities in France. In parallel, the sale of its last cogeneration asset in Quebec (Senneterre) allows our company to become a 100% renewable energy producer. In July, we consolidate our presence in the UK by acquiring Infinergy, including a development project portfolio of 338 MW. In December, we complete the largest acquisition in our history with the acquisition of 50% of the shares in five wind farms in the United States totaling 894 MW (spread across Texas and New Mexico).

In February, we sign a power purchase agreement for the Apuiat wind project with Hydro-Québec in partnership with the Innus in Québec. Also in February, we unveil our first CSR report and elevate our corporate social responsibility objectives to the same level as our financial objectives in our strategic plan. In June, we unveil our 2025 strategic plan. We end the year with the commissioning of our first floating solar plant in Peyrolles-en-Provence, France.

We commission our first wind farm repowering in France (Cham Longe repowering) and exceed 1 GW of operation capacity in France. In the United States, we continue our geographical diversification by acquiring shares in seven solar sites spread across California, Indiana and Alabama. 2020 is also marked by the handover between Patrick Lemaire and Patrick Decostre. Patrick Lemaire remained at the helm of the company for 14 years and positioned Boralex as a major player in the renewable energy industry. Patrick Decostre, Boralex’s first employee in Europe in the early 2000’s, takes over on December 1st.

The Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) becomes our main hareholder after purchasing all the Class A common share held by Cascades. This operation confirms Boralex’s essential status in the global renewable energy market. We complete the acquisition of the largest wind farm in the Niagara region (230 MW).

2014

A key year for our growth in France. We acquire Enel Green Power France and all of its operational assets (186 MW), under construction (10 MW), and its development portfolio (310 MW). We become the leading independent producer of onshore wind power in France and increase our installed capacity worldwide by 25% (940 MW).

We begin a first transition towards 100% renewable production by reducing the weight of our thermal assets portfolio and acquiring long-term contracts in the wind and hydroelectric sectors. We develop and built the Témiscouata wind farms in Quebec (76 MW), the Jamie Creek hydroelectric plant (22 MW) in Bristih Columbia and five wind farms in France (totaling 123 MW)

We continue our growth in the wind energy sector, this time in Canada. A consortium composed of Boralex and Energir, in collaboration with Séminaire de Québec, is awarded two wind projects submitted in response to a call for tenders launched by Hydro-Québec. The Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms have a total installed capacity of 272 MW. They begin producing green energy in 2013. In parallel, we close the acquisition of rights for nine wind farms in Ontario, now known as Thames Rivers (90 MW).
