It’s well known within the company and in the industry: at Boralex, we’re competitive! From dragon boat races to friendly “wind soccer” tournaments and cycling challenges, it’s not hard to rally colleagues around championships of all kinds. But how can we capitalize on this passion for competitions to generate a positive social impact?
7 years ago, a company-wide sporting challenge was launched. The Iron Boralex Challenge (IBC) was born! Since then, every June, dozens, if not hundreds, of employees take part in sports to collect points and try to help their team win. But that’s not all!
In addition to encouraging physical activity among all employees, the IBC raises funds for various charities. In fact, the more points participants earn, the more donations the company can make to various organizations. These organizations are chosen by the participants themselves before the start of the challenge.
To give this initiative even greater impact, additional challenges are also proposed to participants. Every week during the month of June, they carry out actions to promote environmental protection, mental health and healthier eating.
Today, the IBC is eagerly awaited by employees. The competition is fierce, and everyone’s ranking is a favorite topic at the coffee machine. Above all, every year, sizeable sums are sent to those in need. In 2024, thanks to the 57,612 km covered by participants (158% of the target!), €3,000 / CAD $4,300 will be donated to three associations.
One small gesture at a time, Boralex is getting involved in the communities where it operates to make a positive impact while providing renewable energy that’s affordable for everyone.
That’s what it means to go beyond renewable energy.
